Thailicious

Thailicious soup

I ended up having a pleasant meal at Thailicious in Longwood. It didn’t seem promising when I walked through the door and stood waiting to be greeted. A waiter breezed right by me without so much as a how do you do. But almost as quickly as he whooshed by, another young man stepped right up and offered me the kind of warm welcome a visitor to a new place should receive. He showed me to a a small table at a banquette.

I was less encouraged when it became clear that the first fellow would be my server, and I wish I could say that he warmed up a bit. But clearly something was distracting him.

Regardless, I enjoyed my dinner. It started with a bowl of Tom Yum with chicken. But the most impressive ingredient was mushroom, and I really appreciated that they were left in large enough hunks to get a good chew on. The broth had nice hot and sour notes but was not overly spicy. There was a good squirt of lime juice and just enough tomatoness. Delicious with a cold Singha (once the server remembered I’d ordered one).

Thailicious curry

For my entree I chose Yellow Curry with beef. Although ordered medium spicy, it was more on the mild side. Still, the coconut milk added smoothness, and I liked the big chunks of potatoes. (Someone in the kitchen apparently doesn’t like to do a lot of chopping, and that’s fine by me.)

The sauce also contained slices of onions and red bell peppers and prettily carved zucchini. It was all delicious when spooned over the fluffy white rice.

Thailicious interior

The low lighting adds a touch of moodiness to the atmosphere, lovely for a quick and quiet dinner.

Thailicious is at 470 W. State Road 434, Longwood. It is open for lunch and dinner daily. The phone number is 321-316-4882.
