Eddie V’s

I had a rare evening recently when I decided I didn’t want to go out to eat at a place that I had to but rather revisit a restaurant I wanted to, just because I like it.

I chose Eddie V’s.

I love the elegance of Eddie V’s dining room, the sophistication of the tuxedo-styled tables with white linens and black napkins. The candles and fine stemware. The drum shaped light fixtures softly illuminating the room.

And the food is always first rate, too.

My companion and I started our casual dinner with the Maine Lobster Tacos appetizer, which featured sweet and generous hunks of lobster meat on house-made tortillas with a corn salsa and grated white cheese. They were wonderful.

For my entree I chose the Mediterranean Branzino, also known as European sea bass. The skin had a crispy texture, a nice counterpoint to the soft flesh, and both tasted great with the dollops of tapenade made with olives and sun-dried tomatoes. It was accompanied by artichose hearts and stems.

My friend chose the Swordfish Steak, broiled simply and topped with a mound of lump crab meat over sliced avocados. The sauce of pink grapefruit, cilantro and red chiles was surprisingly light.

Service by the white-jacketed staff was professional and efficient.

The only setback in the evening occurred while waiting in the crowded bar, listening to the live music and ordering a pre-dinner cocktail. My negroni came with club soda poured on top. Classic cocktails shouldn’t be messed with. (The bartender happily remade my drink when I pointed that out.)

Other than that, I was pleased with my choice for my special night.

Eddie V’s is at 7488 W. Sand Lake Road, Orlando. It is open for dinner daily. The phone number is 407-355-3011.
