Bloodhound Brew

I don’t think I’ve ever been served Tartar Sauce Soup before. No, let me amend that. I definitely have never been served Tartar Sauce Soup before.

But that’s the only description for what came with the Fish & Chips I ordered at Bloodhound Brew Pub & Eatery in South Orlando. Seriously, you could have drunk this stuff with a straw.

I’ve also never been served cold Mushy Peas. They’re always served at least warm if not hot. This ice cream-scoop shaped mound seemed to have come right out of the cooler.

The fish had a nice beer batter jacket but it was greasy. The chips were fine. Someone went an extra step to grill the lemon half that was served with the fish, chips and soup. But how could that same person serve tartar sauce that had completely liquified?

Bloodhound menu

Perhaps I should have bolted when I was handed a bindered menu that reeked of beer and whose thick, cardboardlike pages were sticky and deteriorating. (Yes, one of the menu items is called Bloodhound Balls. No, I did not have them.)

But I liked the atmosphere of the freestanding shack, especially the outdoor bar and dining area. And the bartender who doubled as the server couldn’t have been friendlier or more attentive. He seemed to totally understand when I said I wouldn’t need a takeout box for my largely uneaten lunch.

As to the name, put a long pause between the word Brew and the word Pub. Call it Bloodhound Brew, a pub and eatery. Or don’t.

Bloodhound Brew is at 5801 Conroy Road, Orlando. It’s open for lunch and dinner daily, including late nights. The phone number is 407-578-5711.
