310 Lakeside Brunch

310 patio

Whenever I visit 310 Lakeside, I always go in with the hope that it will suddenly have been transformed into a restaurant befitting its location. My hopes are always dashed. A recent brunch visit didn’t change that.

310 Lakeside is the restaurant in an office building on Central Boulevard across the street from lovely Lake Eola. The glass and steel structure wants a power-lunch mien; the lake-view patio wants tasteful elegance. Neither is fully met.

The brunch menu focuses almost exclusively on the br — seven out of eight brunch items feature eggs; the other one is French toast.

310 scramble

I opted for the California Scramble, not quite a breakfast burrito but a large (and not very fresh) flour tortilla wrapped loosely around some scrambled eggs with a few pieces of diced ham. It was topped with dollops of sour cream and guacamole plus some watery salsa and some sliced black olives. It was all a bit sad.

Even sadder were the “home fries,” which seemed to be old french fries given an extra bit of frying to add limpness and greasiness.

Although it has a very nice view of the lake and park across the way, the patio has the unfortunate location of being on the dark side of the building, so most of the tables are in the shade. Perhaps that’s an advantage in the hot summer sun, but it isn’t appealing in the winter months.

310 Lakeside takes its name from the Winter Park restaurant 310 Park South, which is its address. There is nothing 310-y about the downtown Orlando restaurant — the address has all three digits although not in that order. But, you know, branding.

I had no qualms with service — everyone was pleasant and prompt. I just wish they all had more exciting food to serve.

310 Lakeside is at 301 E. Pine St., Orlando. Brunch is served Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The phone number is 407-373-0310 (ah, there’s a 310!).
