Ziggie’s Pizza

Ziggie’s Pizza has replaced Perla’s Pizza. Actually, it’s less a replacement than it is a transformation. Christian Ziegler took over the business when he and pizza partner Mike Collantes dissolved the business, but it continues mostly the same.

Well, there’s one big difference: it no longer offers the pizza with bananas on it.

But it does offer some interesting and non-run-of-the-mill pies, such as the Ziggie’s Stardust, which has as its base a pistachio pesto instead of the red sauce that most mills have the run of, so to speak.

And it was quite good, especially with the addition of Ziggie’s blend of mozzarella, pecorino and buffalo mozzarella and smokey bits of bacon, roasted mushrooms, red onions and green goddess dressing. Looked odd but tasted delicious.

Red sauce is available, too, which is what I chose on my B.Y.O.P. (build you own pizza) option. I had the same cheese blend – the only other option is no cheese, which is not an option – as well as sausage and pepperoni. There was a good showing of toppings and the seasonings were well balanced.

Both pies had a thin-crust platform that stopped short of being too cracker-y.

Ziggie’s has an online ordering form that’s easy to maneuver and you can even schedule pickup for a later time. You might want to schedule it so that you have enough time to pop in to the Thirsty Topher, with which it shares a space, and make yourself unthirsty.

Ziggie’s Pizza is at 603 Virginia Drive, Orlando (map). It is open Tuesday through Sunday. The phone number is 407-745-4483.
