Pop in at Pizza Ponte

Written By Scott Joseph On July 8, 2019

Ponte pop

I was at Disney Springs one recent sweltering day — I know, that doesn’t narrow it down much — so I decided to pop in to Pizza Ponte for a pop.

I’d say I stopped in for a popsicle, but Popsicle® is actually a brandname. The generic term is ice pop, though I’ve never heard anyone say, “Hey, I could sure go for an ice pop right about now.” But the brand became so identified with the genre that they’re interchangeable. Sort of like, “Hand me a Kleenex®, would you? This Popsicle® is running down my arm.”

But in any event, I stopped eating popsicles a long time ago. Ice pops, too.

But a frozen device on a wooden stick fashioned out of sangria can certainly get my attention. So that’s what I was at Pizza Ponte to try.

PP is currently featuring a line of ‘sicles from Pop Fusions, a Florida company that makes what it calls “Gourmet Fruit Pops.” They have conventional fruits in their pops — strawberry, orange, blueberry and pineapple, among others. But I was more interested in the fermented fruit.

So I stepped up to the counter at Pizza Ponte — one of the things I like about PP is that it’s a fast-casual and I don’t have to commit to a full-service visit — and soon I had a cold White Sangria Wine pop in hand.

And it was delicious. Cool and refreshing with a smooth taste. It’s made with Island Grove Wine Company Sunshine State White Sangria blended with pineapple and mangoes, which gives it a nice fruity flavor. Still, I knew I was licking wine.

Ponte mortadella

I would suggest you stop in at Pizza Ponte and try one, but after you have some of the other good things from the menu. As I’ve mentioned before, the food at Ponte is quite good. The pizzas, yes, but the sandwiches are equally as impressive. And like I said, it’s quick, and you can either grab a seat inside out of the heat, take a table on the patio, or nibble as you walk.

It’s all good.

Pizza Ponte is at Disney Springs. It is open for lunch and dinner daily.
