Los Generales

The little restaurant space on Curry Ford that La Fiesta vacated recently didn’t stay empty very long. And it was replaced by another Mexican restaurant, to boot.

Los Generales moved in to 2901 Curry Ford Road after La Fiesta moved to a bigger space across the street. The name might sound familiar — it did to me — because there was a Los Generales in south Orlando that we visited several years ago (it was even one of the featured options during a Magical Dining Month), which is now closed.

But the name is merely coincidence.

This Los Generales calls itself “a traditional country-Mexican eatery,” but Tex-Mex is a more apt description.

The fare is pretty standard and perfectly acceptable. Chips and salsa are offered complimentary, of course, and the salsa, served in a small carafe, had nice pulp.

I was a little dismayed that the taco on my combination platter was served on a flour tortilla. A corn tortilla wasn’t offered, and I would have thought it would be standard for a “country-Mexican” restaurant. There was, however, plenty of shredded pork inside.

And the chili relleno, a large poblano stuffed with ground beef and cheese, was quite good. The enchilada was OK. I liked the refried beans but the rice was a disappointment.

The space is spartan but neat. My server was pleasant and the food was delivered hot and in a timely manner. Sometimes that’s all you need.

Los Generales is at 2901 Curry Ford Road, Orlando. It is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday. There is no website. The phone number is 407-985-4341.
