Paxia, the modernistic Mexican restaurant in College Park, started offering a brunch menu a while back, and I finally had a chance to experience it recently. It’s called Pajama Brunch, and is available on both Saturday and Sunday. Not to worry, it’s OK if you don’t wear your pajamas; everyone there was fully dressed when I visited. I, on the other hand, had trouble keeping my robe cinched.
It’s an a la carte brunch menu, which I prefer. I don’t care for the all-you-can-gorge buffet brunches. I consider myself fairly disciplined, but even I end up eating way too much at one of those glutfests.
The menu is compact but has enough on it that I found it tough to decide on just one item. (Reasonable, too, with most items under $10 -- much better than the $40 buffet brunches about town.) I finally went with the huevos motulenos, which featured two eggs, sunnyside up, served on a corn tostada with black beans, peas and cubes of chorizo. It also had a tomato-habanero sauce that was wonderfully spicy -- not so hot as to be scorching but enough to wake up the taste buds. The bits of sausage were especially good.
Paxia’s bright orange and blue decor is especially sunny at brunchtime. The staff was cheery and worked together to make certain all the guests were taken care of. What a pleasant way to spend a morning.
Paxia is at 2611 Edgewater drive, Orlando. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Here’s a link to Paxia’s website. The phone number is 407-420-1144.
