Stasio’s Italian Deli

Written By Scott Joseph On October 29, 2020

Stasio exterior

When I first reviewed Stasio’s Italian Deli & Market, exactly two years and one day ago, I mused that the then-new business was still a work in progress and that the people behind might not be sure exactly what they wanted the place to be. It wasn’t exactly a restaurant and the market wasn’t very amply stocked.

Both those observations are true today. What’s more, Stasio’s doesn’t do a very good job of marketing. It still doesn’t have a website, and its Facebook page lacks basic information like hours of operation and a menu.

But damn does it make good food.

It still deals mainly in sandwiches – I obtained photos of the menu via messenger and have posted them below – and I showed a bit of consistency myself when, without checking my previous review, I selected the same two sandwiches as before. (Their menu descriptions are just more appealing.) But this time I also selected one of the heat-it-yourself items I spotted in the display cooler.

Stasios hot package

The sandwiches were the Package and the Stasio. The former was a heated concoction of house-made meatballs and Italian sausage with melted mozzarella, topped by a full-flavored marinara, all crammed inside a two-fisted roll. (Like just about everything else here, the bread is made in-house.)

Stasios cold stasio

The Stasio was worthy of bearing the name. It was a cold sandwich of prosciutto, spicy capicola and soppresata in generous amounts with slices of mozzarella cheese. Also included were sweetly roasted red peppers and red onions, dressed with a mild balsamic vinaigrette.

Both sandwiches were massively large.

Stasios shells

From the display cooler I chose the stuffed shells, jumbo pasta shells filled with a creamy ricotta cheese blend sitting in some more of that wonderful marinara sauce and topped with shredded mozzarella just waiting to be melted in my own oven. It would have been nice if the package had included heating instructions, but we’ve already established that this outfit isn’t very forthcoming with information. But I made do – 350 degrees is pretty standard and heating it until its hot throughout is a no brainer – and it turned out fine. Better than fine. It was filling and delicious.

To minimize time inside, I ordered by phone. The phone number is published! Progress.

Stasio’s Italian Deli & Market is at 210 N. Bumby Ave., Orlando (map). It is open for breakfast, lunch and early dinner (until 7 on weekdays and 5 p.m. on Saturday) Monday through Saturday. That phone number is 407-277-7755.
