Lu Garden

I got Chinese food from Lu Garden the other day.

“Leu Gardens sells Chinese food?”

No, not Leu Gardens, Lu Garden.

“You mean Chuan Lu Garden?”

No, but Lu Garden has some good food to chew on.

Lu Garden is a compact, unassuming restaurant in a small strip mall on Conroy Winermere Road between Kirkman road and Dr. Phillips Boulevard. It seems the space was previously occupied by a business called Magic Wok, but Magic Wok apparently went poof.

I needed to order some food to take to a business meeting and found Lu Garden’s website. It was easy to navigate and had a user-friendly ordering feature. I grabbed some items and put them in my cart, easily choosing the side selections for each entree.

But when I got to checkout, the system wouldn’t accept my credit card.

So I went the old fashioned route and called the restaurant, where a very nice woman took my order over the phone. She told me I could pay when I picked the food up.

And 15 minutes later when I walked through the front door, she was bagging all of the food. I swiped my card, signed the charge slip and was on my way.

Lugarden dumplings

Lugarden buns

For appetizers I selected the dumplings, crescent pot stickers with ground pork and cabbage stuffed inside. And the steamed juicy pork buns, little dough purses that were almost like soup dumplings but not quite that juicy. Of the two, I preferred the pork and cabbage dumplings.

Lugarden curry

From the list of lunch specials, I chose the curry sauce with beef, a yellow curry with celery, carrots and green and red peppers wokked (magically?) with the chopstickable slices of tender beef.

And the shredded pork with garlic sauce with myriad matchstick vegetables and chilies in a soy based gravy. I liked the bits of fresh ginger in the mix.

The entrees came with a choice of rice – steamed with the pork; fried with the curry – and a choice of soup. I ordered the hot and sour, which really wasn’t too hot, and the egg drop. I liked the egg drop best.

There are a few tables for dining in but it’s not what you’d call a spacious dining room.

It isn’t the best Chinese food in town but it was all enjoyable. And it’s better than anything they serve at Leu Gardens.

Lu Garden is at 6700 Conroy Windermere Road, Orlando (map). It is open for lunch and dinner daily. The phone number is 407-522-8688.
