Quick Bite: Dolce

Dolce table

Dolce is a pleasant little cafe on Central Boulevard, across from an entrance to Lake Eola Park. It was a perfect place to meet a friend visiting from out of town. And surprisingly, we had the whole place to ourselves.

Although the name would suggest it specialized in sweets, it actually has an extensive menu of breakfast, lunch and brunch items, including crepes, pancakes, waffles and french toast. Yes, you can also get cinnamon rolls.

I went with a breakfast burrito called a SausaRito, apparently because it had sausage and was distinguished from the BacoRito and the Huevorito, which somehow didn’t rate a capital R.

It was a large format burrito, or Rito, made with a flour tortilla and filled with scrambled eggs, sausage bits, cheese and cubes of fried potatoes. It could have had more sausage, and the potatoes paired with the doughy folds of the tortilla made it a bit starchy. (More potatoes were included on the plate, and those would have been plenty.

The coffee was nice and strong, served in a red cup and delivered to our patio table on a silver tray. Staff were gracious and attentive. A lovely experience, one that I hope to have again.

Dolce is at 500 E. Central Blvd., Orlando (map). It is open for breakfast and lunch daily (closes at 4 p.m. The phone number is 407-800-6100.
