Canopy Cafe

Canopy Cafe is the new name on the restaurant space that previously was known as Tolla’s. That’s the small, freestanding building on Pennsylvania Avenue a little farther north than the Coop.

It’s a pleasant enough place, and it makes full use of the outdoor seating area, which is actually larger than indoors. Not really a canopy — a hard roof covers the patio — but the open air space has roll-down scrim shades that allow it to be as climate controlled as possible.

It serves only breakfast and lunch, and the menu isn’t ambitious. Neither does anything pop up and say, “This is what you should order when you come to Canopy Cafe.”

Canopy omelet

So I ordered the Mexican omelet, which had pico de gallo, bits of sausage and shredded cheese inside the folded and fluffed eggs. It came with a latke-like potato pancake and fried house-made biscuit.

My lunch companion had the turkey stacker sandwich (which actually did have a little icon next to it to indicate it was a CC favorite). It featured plenty of thinly sliced turkey breast meat with some bacon on toasted multigrain bread. A large pickle spear and a bag of chips accompanied.

Our server was smiling and fast. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Canopy Cafe is at 240 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Winter Park. It is open for breakfast and lunch daily (the website says it serves Sunday brunch, but there is no separate menu posted there). The phone number is 407-628-0068.
