Linda’s Winter Park Diner

Written By Scott Joseph On April 8, 2010

wpdinerI thought I was seeing something new when I drove down Fairbanks Avenue and noticed the sign for Linda’s Winter Park Diner. I knew the diner had been there for years, but was the Linda’s part new?

It was a question I asked when I stopped in for breakfast this morning at the ungodly hour of 6:30. Or maybe that should be the ungodly half-hour. Whatever. But no, it turns out. It’s always been Linda’s. I just never noticed it.

Linda’s WP Diner has a basic layout of booths and stools at a lunch counter. I thought the place was very bright, but that may have been just because it was still dark outside. Tabletops are a Formica laminate and food is served on melamine. The lightweight plates tend to slide around the table as you try to cut your food.

I ordered a chili and cheese omelet, which was delivered lickety-split. It was a modest omelet, not a lot of egg involved, topped with a ground beef chili with an earthy taste and melted American cheese. The home fries were just as modest, but the biscuit did not taste remotely fresh.

Linda’s Winter Park Diner is what it is. It’s the sort of place where folks walk in and the waitress asks if they want “the usual.” The menu has ads for local businesses and so do the coffee cups. It’s not likely to win breakfast awards, but it’s fine for an early morning bite.

Linda’s Winter Park Diner is at 1700 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park. It’s open for breakfast and lunch. The phone number is 407-644-4323. There is no Web site.
