Takeout from Se7en Bites

Let’s get takeout for breakfast. No, having to drive someplace to get the food isn’t as nice as having breakfast in bed. But if the restaurant offers curbside pickup, you don’t have to change out of your pajamas and can hop back in bed when you get home.

Let’s go to Se7en Bites.

I phoned my order in for a Sunday breakfast (there is no online ordering form, so a phone call is necessary). I ordered the Farmers breakfast sandwich and the entree known simply as Southern. The pleasant young woman on the phone said that orders required advanced credit card payment. I said that was fine and requested that she add on the tip so I could have contactless curbside pickup. She said that was fine and told me to call when I arrived at the restaurant.

But unfortunately the phone kept ringing busy when I tried to call to let them know I had arrived. So I just got out of the car, masked up and walked to the front door where a staff person was controlling the number of people who could go inside for dining or to order from the bakery. She notified someone inside to bring out my order.

It worked out fine, but now everyone knows that I wear bunny slippers. Albeit ones made with real bunnies.

And of course Trina Gregory-Propst’s food is worth those few extra steps.

The Farmers sandwich – really not sure why it’s called that – had pimento cheese, a choice of bacon or sausage patty (sausage, please), fried green tomatoes (from a farm!) and two eggs prepared to order (over easy for me). It was served on toasted ciabatta, fresh and doughy, and it was all delicious.

The Southern had a base of buttermilk garlic biscuit, as is featured in a number of other menu items, with a baked egg in ham, a slather of pimento cheese, thick-cut applewood smoked bacon served with grits infused with cheddar and chives. Yummy but messy, so be careful with your sheets.

Se7en Bites is at 617 N. Primrose Drive, Orlando. Its currently serves breakfast and lunch Thursday through Sunday. The phone number is 407-203-0727.
