Not your typical wine bar. It's two stories, serves some serious food, and it's all overseen by a certified master sommelier, George Miliotes, who loves to introduce his guests to new wines. If he makes a suggestion, take it.... Read more

Scott's Review
I'll have to admit that my expectations weren't exactly high when I was invited to the Wine Barn in Winter Park to sample its line of pizzas. I mean, come on: It's called the Wine Barn, for crying out loud, and its main purpose is to sell wines in a somewhat warehousey sort of setting. The food has to be just a sideline, a distraction, a hobby. We're probably talking prefab Boboli-type dough with some slathered sauce and canned toppings, right? No, not right. The pizzas here are excellent, some of the best I've had in Central Florida. And my reaction is not because of lowered expectations or, as a way of giving full disclosure, a placation to a business that advertises on SJO. These are some darned fine pies. They're rustic pizzas that immediately brought to mind the sort that are served at Prato. There are two keys to their success. First is the flour, which is Caputo brand, imported from Naples (not the one in Florida) and is a 00, the finest grind (ratings are 1, 0 and 00). The pizza dough is made from scratch and allowed to rest for 24 hours before it is hand-stretched when the pizza is ordered.... Read more

A sort of Wine-O-Mat concept wherein you pay as much as you want and are handed a debit card with that amount loaded on it. Then you wander about the space, which has dozens of automated wine stations. When you spot a wine you want to sample, you select it, insert your card, and place your glass under the spigot. Sample, sip, repeat. But don't expect a lot in the way of nibbles. A meager cheese platter may be your only hope.

Scott's Review
When it first opened, Winter Park Fish Company was a fast-casual restaurant. People stood in a line that often snaked out the door, ordered their food at the counter once they made it inside, then took a table stand with a number and hunted for a table to wait for their order. You may still find a line today, but it's more likely people waiting for a host to acknowledge them and to find them a table, probably with the curt phrase, "Inside, outside or first available?"... The website admits that the dining experience is meant to be Spago-like, though they chose not to name it such, even though there are now five Spagos worldwide. But the food is classic Puck, with touches of his native Austria and of course the designer pizzas that made him famous.... Read more

Like Udipi Café Woodlands is all vegetarian, and it’s all good. Dosai are intimidatingly large crepes wrapped around myriad fillings; Uthappam are Indian-style pancakes that resemble latkes. A house specialty is chana bhatura, a big puffy bread that looks sort of like an expanded Jiffy Pop. But with better stuff inside.

All of the staff I had contact with were friendly and helpful, taking time to explain the various dishes. Although with a clientele that was mostly Indian on one of the nights I visited, not much explaining is necessary.

Scott's Review
The location is the former Lee's Lakeside, once considered the jewel of downtown dining. It would have been nice to see an upscale/casual restaurant go here, but this franchise has turned the space into a pleasant gathering spot. Unlike many other Worlds of Beer, this one has a more extensive food menu, including full entrees. Not the greatest food you can find in the neighborhood, but when steak frites only costs $15, it's hard to quibble.... Read more
