This is the oldest restaurant in Central Florida, in operation since 1947. It remains a favorite of locals, though it’s somewhat of a mystery to some. Maybe it’s the diner-like attitude of the servers, or the family-style décor. But it’s probably that the steaks are consistently good, if not great, and they still come with a side of pasta. Note: closed Sundays following Father's Day until October.

Just a little hole in the wall place, like so many eateries you'll find in New Orleans. Not everything is authentic. The jambalaya, for instance, bears no semblance to any you'd find in the Crescent City. But whatever it was was delicious. Wonderful oyster po'boy, too.... Read more

This was once the go-to place for Vietnamese cuisine. That's partly because it was one of the first to introduce Central Florida to the phos and other specialties of (mostly) South Vietnam. If this is a longtime favorite of yours, it’s probably because you’ve found something you like that they do with consistency. Good for you. Newcomers who scour the menu with a fine-tooth comb may not like what they find. Quality has flagged a bit over the last few years; I do not endorse this restaurant with the enthusiasm I once did.

This restaurant was originally called Lombard's Landing; not sure why that was changed to Lombard's Seafood Grille -- maybe people thought Landing had something to do with an airstrip. No, no - this Lombard's is the street that runs into San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. The food here has never been special but it's usually palatable. And as one of only two full-service restaurants inside the theme park (Finnegan's Bar & Grill is the other) it's the choice for people who'd rather not do the self-service thing.... Read more

I thought I had made a discovery of a new and wonderful Cuban cafe. Turns out that Los Autenticos has been around for a long time - it's just new to me. But still wonderful nonetheless. Very small place with big-flavored food. Be sure to have a cup of the chicken soup, and then move on to the roast pork or maybe a Cuban sandwich.... Read more

This is one of my favorite authentic Mexican restaurants in the area. Nothing fancy -- why should it be? -- just good, food.

Lu Garden is a compact, unassuming restaurant in a small strip mall on Conroy Winermere Road between Kirkman road and Dr. Phillips Boulevard. It seems the space was previously occupied by a business called Magic Wok, but Magic Wok apparently went poof.... Read more
