New restaurant, Rustic Steak, opens in downtown Orlando

Written By Administrator On October 2, 2008

Just when you’d least expect it — and just where you’d least expect it, too — a new restaurant has opened.

You have to wonder who would open a restaurant in this economic climate. And, you’d have to wonder who would be gutsy enough to open one in the troubled Church Street Station complex, where the existing tenants are trying to hold on as they watch the construction of the new arena begin.
That would be Manny Tato, owner of Spice Modern Steakhouses on Park Avenue in Winter Park and at Lake Eola.

Maybe gutsy isn’t the right word, especially given that his Spice Modern at Lake Eola is about a mile away from this new restaurant and the two are essentially competing with one another for customers.
But they are distinctly different concepts, Rustic being, despite its name, a more upscale venue. And that’s another anomaly, but we’ll discuss that another time.
Rustic has been open only a week and a half, so my review will come later. In the meantime, you can check the place out online or in person at 129 W. Church St., Orlando.
