Scott's Review
This new sports bar shouldn't be confused with the many Miller's Ale Houses. Miller's Field has made improvements over the past year. The chili was a hearty bowl of beans and thick stew. It was a pretty good serving size for a cup, and it was garnished with plenty of shredded cheese and thick chops of green onions. The burger was an impressively thick patty that was cooked precisely to the requested medium-rare. (I was a little concerned when I ordered it because the menu specifies the burgers are cooked well done, but the server assured me I could have it my way.) The juicy burger was served on a fresh bun topped with a pickle spear held in place by a wooden skewer.... Read more

Moon Fish is another welcome addition to the local seafood scene. It doesn’t do everything right, but the outlook is encouraging. Concentrate on the fresh fish selections and avoid anything too fancy. Have the calamari as an appetizer and spring for the sorbets at dessert – there’s enough to share. One of the gimmicks here is to give the name of the person who caught your fish; not sure that’s necessary, but there you go.

Decor is upscale and splashy -- literally, with tv screens behind waterfalls -- and the front door handles are shaped like a moon fish, so you'll know you're in the right place.

Morton's recently renovated its Restaurant Row Orlando location. The decor is imbued with a modern and tony flair, less the stodgy boardroom ambience at some of the other high-end steakhouses. Maybe that's why women seem to feel so comfortable here.

Steaks are cooked under a super-hot broiler, and when the kitchen is on the mark, they're among the best.

Scott's Review

When people talk about chain restaurants in a negative way, I think they’re talking about chains like O’Charley’s. The restaurant, one of more than 230 across the country, opened recently in the center directly behind the Whole Foods store at the corner of Sand Lake Road and Turkey Lake Road. It’s the first Central Florida O’Charley’s from the Nashville-based company. If they’re all like this one, let’s hope it’s the last. This is the sort of place that has a scent of beef juices constantly in the air, the kind of restaurant where the laminated menu with colorful photos of the dishes can still be stained. The sort of place where the servers can be perky and blissfully clueless to their incompetence.

Scott's Review

An upscale seafood (Ocean) and steak (Prime) supper club (live music) in the vein of The Oceanaire Seafood Room. The main dining room features warm wood walls with huge five-foot portholes that look through to the lounge area. (The dining room has its own bar for more intimate imbibing, a nice touch.) Touches of blue neon and a soft glow from drumlike light fixtures offer romantic notes, and white tablecloths and candles with frosted shades add a touch of elegance.

A “surf n turf” appetizer had lovely sea scallops and boneless short ribs plopped together in a smallish bowl with way too mashed potatoes. Good scallops, good ribs, bad presentation.

Onion soup was distinguished by a near lack of broth under heavy cheese; she-crab soup had a slight astringency and was not nearly as rich as it should have been.

Service was professional and thorough, and once the kitchen makes the right improvements, Ocean Prime will be a good choice.

Scott's Review
f you walked through Peperoncino’s front door and took too many steps you’d find yourself back outside through the little restaurant’s back door. But what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in charm and, more important, the food. In the realm of Italian restaurants in Central Florida, few offer the sort of authentic experience that Peperoncino does. If you’re sitting in a spot that allows a view of the Dellagio’s central plaza, you might think you’re on a piazza looking at one of the fountains of Rome. And don’t expect the food to bring you back to reality. It is expertly crafted from recipes cooked in the kitchens of the chef/owner Barbara Alfano’s grandmothers and is lovingly replicated here. Every bite is a veritable travelogue.... Read more

Scott's Review
The elixirs at Pharmacy are strictly medicinal. Or at least that’s the winking assertion of this new restaurant and bar from the same people who last year brought us The Table Orlando. Tyler Brassil and Loren Falsone oversee the kitchen while Dominick Tardugno handles the compounding of the tonics and such. Yes, it’s a speakeasy environment, a drinking establishment disguised as an apothecary. Well, not really. The pharmaceutical theme isn’t carried through (thankfully), so there are no shelves of pills and salves, and the servers aren’t scampering around in white tunics. That would get old real fast. There isn’t anything silly about the food or the drink. It’s all taken quite seriously, and all done well, for the most part.... Read more
