Gourmet magazine will cease publication

Written By Scott Joseph On October 5, 2009

gourmet magazineGourmet, the Conde Nast magazine that began in 1940, will cease publication, according to news items in the New York Times and other outlets. An announcement from Conde Nast is expected shortly.

The publisher is also shuttering its Modern Bride, Elegant Bride and Cookie titles.

Gourmet has been edited the past several years by Ruth Reichl, former critic for the New York Times and one of the most respected food experts in the U.S. According to the Times story, the closings are the result of a study conducted by McKinsey & Company of Conde Nast’s costs, which concluded the company needed to shed 25 percent of its budget.
