Like most of the other Vietnamese restaurants in the area, Pho Vinh’s menu is larger than you would think it would need to be. With over 180 items, the menu is a lot to take in and, well, digest. I knew I wanted soup when I visited, so instead of wading through the various pho, metaphorically speaking, I zeroed in on the section of the menu labeled “House Soups Specials.” How can you go wrong there?I selected the bun mang vit, or what is more commonly referred to as ol’ number 72. It was a beef-based soup with slender rice vermicelli noodles, the meat of a duck leg (sans bones) and miniature planks of bamboo shoots. Accompanying the soup were stacks of crunchy bean sprouts and fresh, green basil, plus some slices of jalapeno for heat and limes for tartness. A good, filling soup -- especially nice on cold days. The decor is pleasant, bright and tidy. Service was friendly and welcoming.... Read more

The concept here it that you direct each aspect of the pizza-making process, beginning with the type of crust you'd like, the variety of sauce, cheese choice, and the myriad of toppings. A staffer assembles your pie at your whim and tosses it into a glass-front oven for baking. Pies are pretty good. Also serves a variety of salads and pasta dishes.... Read more

There are other Pio Pios (Piae Piae?) in the area and although it doesn’t say so on any of the restaurants’ websites, they are all related via ownership. The menus are similar, but, as a pleasant young man at the Semoran Boulevard restaurant explained, “We all serve the same food, but there might be subtle differences like in a sauce.”... Read more

Apparently, I haven’t dined at Pisces Rising in Mount Dora since the middle of 2004. At least that’s the date on a yellowed framed copy of a review I wrote in June of that year. Since then, I’ve learned, there have been at least a couple of ownership changes, so I figured it was time to check it out again. Not only ownership changes, the concept is different, too. Originally a seafood centric restaurant — Pisces, after all — its menu is decidedly less fishy in its current iteration. Actually, I’d be hard pressed to put my finger on a central menu theme. Dishes jump from region to region and even to different countries. But a general goal, it seems, is to Floridate them with a local twist using ingredients from nearby farms.... Read more

After a year-long renovation, Planet Hollywood has been refurbished to resemble a large observatory to better fit in with the Disney Springs backstory. (Never mind that it's really a planetarium.) Inside, it's a little like dining in an IMAX theater, with massive projections of music videos that stretch the three-story auditorium/dining room. Food Network star Guy Fieri contributed to the new menu. Food is impressive mostly in the size of the portion.... Read more

Scott's Review
It’s a full service restaurant with a spartan but tasteful decor and exceptionally friendly service. I stopped in for a quick lunch just to check the place out and ordered the Mussaman Curry with chicken. Although the dish’s listing on the menu has a chili pepper next to it, this mussaman was mild, which is actually the way it should be. It has as its base a creamy coconut milk that’s fried with a paste filled with myriad spices, including cardamom, peppers, dried chili powder and cilantro. ... Read more
