This once elegant restaurant is starting to show some wear for its age. But the food is still good. Have the shrimp appetizer, then have the orange beer or moo shu pork. If the macadamia nut shrimp is served with macadamia nuts instead of walnuts (“The kitchen ran out of macadamia nuts tonight,” is an almost nightly refrain) I want to hear about it immediately.

The salt & pepper shrimp were crispy and seasoned as promised. The dumpling were pan-fried and dense with flavor. The egg roll didn’t seem to have anything besides chopped bok choy, but the creamy sauce with the large shrimp that should have been served with macadamias was rich and delicious.

The lamb was only so-so, and nothing about the seasoning suggested Shanghai. But I liked the spicy orange flavored beef with its tender slices of meat in a thick, citrusy sauce. And the scallops and chicken bird’s nest, with myriad vegetables in a mild white sauce, was good, too, even if the bird’s nest looked like something that might hold a taco salad.
