Newsy Nuggets: F&D; Danilo’s; Rife book; RSK; and a 30th anniversary

Written By Scott Joseph On June 2, 2023

F&D Woodfired Italian Kitchen

The Curry Ford West District F&D Woodfired Italian Kitchen is set to reopen, perhaps as soon as June 12, The freestanding, newly constructed building sits on the corner of Curry Ford Road and Primrose Drive. It replaces the original FDWIK that was near the corner of Bumby Avenue and was closed a little over a year ago because the block it was on was scheduled for imminent redevelopment. Apparently imminent doesn’t mean within a year – nothing has happened on the site so far.

When the relocation was announced, an official with F&D said that when the restaurant reopened it would likely lose the word Italian from the name. As you can see from the photo above, that didn’t happen.

As I told you last week, Camille has moved into its new digs in Baldwin Park. That means the space it had been using inside upstairs in the East End Market’s The Neighbors retail and cocktail venue was up for grabs. Grabbed it has been. Danilo’s Pasta Bar is aiming for a mid-June opening (peering over glasses while tapping wristwatch). Chef DJ Tangalin will present pasta dishes “influenced by the vibrant street culture of Asia.”

Second Store Success Book

Speaking of East End Market, its owner and developer, John Rife, has published a book titled “Second Store Success” for food entrepreneurs with one established establishment that “outlines the path for positioning your next location for success, detailing how to establish your brand, hire the right team, and finance your business’s growth.” The paperback book is available on Amazon for $14.99, but for a limited time the Kindle version is one dollar. Considering Rife’s successes and considerable knowledge on the subject, you’ll get a veritable bang for that buck.

Moghul, the Indian restaurant that opened on Semoran Boulevard in 2011, is now Royal Southern Kitchen. Despite what the name implies, it does not serve Southern soul food but rather specializes in the dishes of Southern India. So Hyderbadi biryani instead of black-eyed peas. Hey, how about black-eyed pea biryani?

Kudos to the Christner family on the upcoming 30th anniversary of Christner’s Prime Steak & Lobster. They’ll commemorate the occasion with a Celebration Dinner on Friday, June 9. The proceeds from all sales, minus alcohol, that evening will benefit Aspire Health Partners and The Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families. Make a reservation through the restaurant.
