The Chef & I, on of the more ambitious restaurant kiosks at the Hall on the Yard in Ivanhoe Village, is hosting a Chef Battle as part of its dinner series. Chefs Michael Morrison and Travis Chasteen will face off on January 25 at 6:30 p.m. to produce a four-course taste-off using shrot ribs, mahi mahi, pork tenderloin and Key West pink shrimp. And attendees will choose who cooked it better. Tickets are very limited and are $100, which includes gratuity. Tickets here.

If you’ve been waiting all week for the weekend so that you could go to Tap Room at Dubsdread for the prime rib that is not available during the week, you’ve wasted several days. The popular College Park restaurant now offers prime rib every evening.

Since I mentioned Tap Room at Dubsdread I might as well give away a $50 gift certificate for this week’s drawing. As always, if you’re on the list of recipients of my weekly newsletter, you’re entered to win. If you’d like to be, click here and sign up.

If you’re out Disney Springs way this evening, stop in at Jaléo for Three Kings Day, a traditional Spanish holiday that is more celebrated than Christmas, according to the restaurant. Guests attending this evening will be able to taste José Andrés’ roscón de reyes cake, which features a hidden king inside (not full size).

The official grand opening is January 27, but Chicharrón Grill by Roberto Treviño at the Marketplace at Avalon Park is open for business now.

Also open: Winter Park Fish Company. The uber casual Orange Avenue seafood restaurant closed in May of 2021 after the city of Winter Park admonished the owners for enclosing a patio without proper permitting. The restaurant is now owned by Dino Thanos, who also has Omega Deli, a Greek restaurant in the Landmark building in downtown Orlando. (One of WPFC’s original owners – a “silent partner,” according to a woman at the restaurant who identified herself as Thanos’ girlfriend, is still a co-owner.) The menu is still the same, cooked by the same chefs, too. But all new staff out front.
