Newsy Nuggets: Orlando Meats closes, pancakes continue, an annual Hooley and a new piano restaurant

This should have been a banner year for Orlando Meats, the boutique butcher and cafe that started on Virginia Drive in Orlando in 2017 and last year moved to a larger space in Winter Park’s Ravaudage Plaza and in June was named one of the area’s Bib Gourmand recommendations in the Michelin Guide’s inaugural Florida edition.

Instead it has closed permanently.

Things apparently began to fall apart when Orlando Meats’ culinary director, Eliot Hillis, and its chef de cuisine, Seth Parker, announced they would be leaving to start a new restaurant called Red Panda Noodles. That restaurant is expected to open later in the year in a still-unannounced location.

No word on what will move into the Ravaudage space.

A spokeswoman for Guest Services, Inc., the Fairfax, Va., hospitality company that will be taking possession of the Old Spanish Sugar Mill restaurant in DeLeon Springs State Park, has confirmed that the cook-them-yourself pancake concept will continue when the restaurant reopens after some renovations. I’m praying that some of those renovations include cleaning the griddles that are built into the rustic tables. I ate at Old Spanish Sugar Mill exactly once, in 1988, and found the cleanliness sketchy enough to keep me from going back.

Raglan Road will host its 10th annual Great Irish Hooley, its Labor Day weekend party of traditional Irish music, dancing, eating and drinking, beginning Friday, Sept. 2, and running through Monday evening in and around the Disney Springs pub. Band schedules and other details at RaglanRoad.com.

Cafe-Boutique Piano, a restaurant with live music, has opened in the building of the former Dexter’s of Winter Park in Hannibal Square.
