The Courtesy, a 10-year-old bar on Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando, will close, probably in May, and relocate to the Foxtail Coffee complex at 1282 N. Orange Ave. in Winter Park.
At the same time, Rhys and Alexia Gawlak will move their Swine & Sons from the Local Butcher & Market, also on Orange Avenue, to the same complex, creating a BarSwine concept, though of course bar swine have existed for centuries. Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream will also join the pack. All of this is expected to happen this summer.
This was all made possible because Winter Park Distilling Company and its Bear and Peacock concept, shown above when it opened in 2017, moved out for its new facilities in the Creative Village. All those tanks and barrles are gone and the now-open space is undergoing renovations for the new tenants.
The Courtesy’s announced move comes just after longtime nightclub Barbarella closed in advance of a relocation in the area of the upcoming Packing District. What’s going on downtown? Maybe there’s something in a quote that Diana Zimmerman, who owns the Courtesy with her husband, Gene, gave to Bungalower’s Brendan O’Connor: “(I)t’s not the same downtown as when we opened. A lot of our core guests tell us they’re not comfortable coming downtown anymore.”
That should send a shiver through the Downtown Development Board’s office at City Hall.
At another Foxtail Coffee complex, this one at Hourglass Social House on Curry Ford Road, Le Ky Bakery has closed and its space will be consumed by the Tamale Company, the Mexican street fooder that was a charter member of the complex.
International Food on Wheels Festival is Sunday, April 17, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Lake Eola Park. Food trucks, live music.

N.Y. Bagel & Deli will open in a former Subway shop at 2008 E. Colonial Drive, giving transplanted New Yorkers living in downtown Orlando a new opportunity to kvetch. It will be NYB&D’s sixth area location.
