George Foss, chef de cuisine at Tori Tori, the popular Mills 50 Japanese pub and restaurant, was killed March 10 when the motorcycle he was riding crashed with another vehicle on U.S. Highway 27 in Davenport. He was 35.
His death was announced on Tori Tori’s Facebook page on Mar. 11. It read in part: “George has been the heart and soul of our company for the past 4 years and is an extraordinary person, father, leader, and son. He has inspired so many lives, brought laughter, brought hope, and a sense of family to many individuals.”
The restaurant closed Mar. 11 to allow the staff time to grieve.
A service is planned for Wed., Mar. 23, at A Community Funeral Home, 910 Michigan St., Orlando, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In addition, the restaurant has added a memorial plaque to a bench on its patio near a calamansi tree Foss and his family planted last year. The plaque reads: “We will always love and miss you Georgie! Keep an eye on us down here, until we cook together again. – The Domu Dynasty Family.”
Among his survivors is his eight-year-old daughter, Annabella. A GoFundMe account has been set up for her college fund and to cover funeral expenses.
The incident calls to mind another that occurred April 29 when chef Chuck Cobb, founder of Git-N-Messy barbecue, was also killed while riding a motorcycle.
