Newsy Nuggets

Hangry Bison WG ext

After numerous delays due to the pandemically hobbled supply chain, the Winter Garden outpost of the Hangry Bison will finally open Tues., Mar. 8. The restaurant is at 250 W. Plant St. You can expect the same crafted cocktails and award-winning burgers you know from the original HB in Winter Park. I wonder if there are other locations in the works and, if so, will they only be in cities with Winter in the name?

Bao’s Castle, the SoDo baotisserie, has also opened a second location…sort of. It has joined the ghostly Collab Kitchens confab in Conway Plaza. I’m not sure if the Curry Ford West district extends that far. If so, it would be Curry Ford West East.

Back over in SoDo, Orlando Brewing is looking to leave SoDo, or at least move out of the facility it has operated in for lo these 18 years. This is not a sudden eviction – OB has known for some time that its space would be consumed by Orlando Health (I’m convinced that Orlando Health and AdventHealth will keep buying up properties until they meet up somewhere downtown). Deadline to move is July 5, and owner John Cheek writes that he has narrowed the search down to three locations, though he has not said where they are other than in Orange County. And Cheek had been saving up for the move, too, but saw those savings dwindle as he made adjustments to stay open during the pandemic.

Now he’s reaching out to the public for help with a GoFundMe campaign. The goal is to raise $200,000 but the total Monday afternoon after seven days was just under $4,700. If you’d like to #keeporlandobrewing, you can donate here.

M Lounge, the rooftop bar in Ivanhoe Village, has closed, and all the exotic cars that were on display on the building’s first floor have been driven off (or towed, it isn’t clear).

Also closed, Beyti Mediterranean Grill, which was housed in the former Rolando’s Cuban Restaurant space in Casselberry.

So it’s almost exactly two years since the world began to shut down. I know this because among the first cancellations were St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. And in a sign that there might be hope for the world on the horizon (as long as you’re not looking in the direction of Eastern Europe), St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are being scheduled again, including the popular Raglan Road Mighty St. Patrick’s Festival, which will run from March 11 through 17 (SPD proper) at the Disney Springs pub. But as an indication that we’re not completely out of the Covid woods yet, the festival will take place outside with five al fresco bars, merchandise, and entertainment by dancers who don’t move their arms. Details at the Raglan Road site.
