Ill-named burgerie slated for Central Florida

Written By Scott Joseph On October 21, 2021

Sickies

Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews, a concept out of Fargo, North Dakota, is set to open Nov. 15 in a former Shoney’s on West Irlo Bronson Highway in Kissimmee.

Yes, it’s called Sickies, presumably because Retches was already taken. No, apparently the name came about because a group of friends would get together in a garage to work on motorcycles and cars and would all call in sick to work.

Have I ever mentioned how hard it is to name a restaurant?

Anyway, this will be the first Sickies in Florida and only the third outside the Dakotas. It’s known for its Sickies Burger, with bacon, egg, pulled pork and onion rings. Have a couple of those and you, too, can call in sick.

The first Sickies opened in 2012. Kissimmee’s will be the eighth in the chain.
