Voodoo Bayou, a South Florida restaurant in downtown Palm Beach Gardens, is planning to take over the former Moonfish space on Sand Lake Road’s Restaurant Row. It describes its cuisine as “Southern Cajun,” though it lists Louisiana fried chicken as a signature dish.
Moonfish, a Talk of the Town Restaurant Group brand, closed in 2020 after choosing not to renew its lease. It had occupied the space since 2002.
The restaurant is owned by husband and wife team Curtis Peery and Carolina Sanchez who also have Calaveras Cantina in Juptier. The Orlando restaurant will apparently be the third Voodoo Bayou – the restaurant’s website lists a Fort Lauderdale location on Las Olas Boulevard “coming soon” but has no mention yet of the Orlando VB.
The Palm Beach Gardens restaurant has not had an easy go of things in its young life. It opened in March 2020 just days before the state mandated all restaurants and bars closed to on-premise sales. And late last month a fire on the restaurant’s roof forced it to close for a week.
The Palm Beach Gardens restaurant, pictured at top, appears to be more spacious than the former Moonfish and frequently features live bands, so it will be interesting to see how it uses the space. A call to Voodoo Bayou’s general manager was not immediately returned.
The Orlando restaurant’s deal was first announced by Richard Bilbao in Orlando Business Journal.
