Newsy Nuggets: Two “Tastes” and other stuff

The latest “Taste of…” festivalette at Epcot opened Wednesday. This one is the Taste of Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, running Mar. 3 through July 5. Throughout the past year, Epcot has been trying to maintain some semblance of its yearlong parade of festivals but without the full panoply of offerings. I wonder if this one will feature only seedlings? Still, there is a good array of outdoor kitchens offering food and drink, and festival planners even managed to add some new kiosks, including the Epcot Sunshine Griddle (avocado toast, shrimp & grits, corned beef brisket hash) and the Epcot Farmers Feast (spring onion soup, duck confit and profiteroles with red bbet mousse – you know, things farmers eat).

Reservations to get into the park are required, as is a valid ticket. If vaccinations stay on track, maybe we can look forward to a full-blown International Food & Wine Festival this year.

  • Just down the path, the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin will offer a springtime version of its fall Food & Wine Classic, also to be called A Taste of Swan & Dolphin, which I hope isn’t to be taken literally. The outdoor event will be Sat., April 17, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and will feature 12 food booths and more than 50 beverage options. More information will be forthcoming, but the ticket sales site is live here. General admission is $125 and unlike last fall’s Classic, the spring festival does not require that you book a room (though room packages are availabe starting at $400, which includes two tickets, so it sounds like a pretty good deal).
  • Hinckley’s Fancy Meats of east End Market has started a dinner series called Creature Comforts. Unlike conventional dinner series, Hinkley’s isn’t inviting you to come in and dine. Instead, the dinners are made available to pick up and take home. Similar to conventional dinner series, a limited number will be available. The next dinner will feature buffalo beer bratwurst with house-fermented sauerkraut. The cost is $43 per dinner, which feeds two to three adults. Only 20 will be sold for the Mar. 12 dinner.   • Antonella’s Pizzeria has opened its second location at 7591 University Blvd., Winter Park.
  • And The Bridge has opened on Morse Boulevard in Winter Park. It bills itself as “a New York restaurant,” whatever that’s supposed to mean. I think we’re meant to deduce that because it’s a New York restaurant it has to be good. Sometime I’ll list all the mediocre and downright awful meals I’ve had at New York restaurants. As far as the food, don’t know. The website isn’t live yet and the Bridge’s Facebook page has limited information. It doesn’t even list its address – very New Yorky – so I’ll tell you it’s in the former Proper & Wild space at 155 E. Morse Blvd.
