Y’all managed to scare the the ghost kitchen when you stormed the White Castle website Tuesday. The sliderie thought it would be a fun bit of marketing to offer its menu through the Dollins Avenue virtual food hall while its Orlando location was still under construction. The website started taking orders Tuesday morning for delivery and pickup and was quickly overwhelmed, forcing it to shut down.
The order site remained closed Wednesday but a press release promised it would be open again on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. This time, however, it will be for pickup only. Well, that shouldn’t cause any problems for the neighbors around the Dollins Avenue business. You can order through the White Castle website – I’ll let you Google it – but seriously, if you need a slider that badly perhaps it’s time for an intervention.
The restaurant formerly known as Coco Cocina in the Sanctuary condominium building in Thornton Park shall now be known as Coco Bar & Tapas. The menu has very little of the Mexican fare it once featured, unless you count the bulgogi and Japanese curry tacos. Otherwise, it’s all over the place, with bahn mi, fish and chips, paella, pork bao bun, and lobster roll. Since 2007, this space has also been home to Fifi’s Patisserie, Sanctuary Diner, Nick’s Italian Kitchen and Gaviota, a fine dining Peruvian restaurant.
When one Mexican door closes another Mexican window opens. In this case it’s Las Carretas, which will move in to the University Plaza at Goldenrod Road and University Boulevard soon.
If Dominican food it more your thing, Pollito Chicken has opened in downtown Kissimmee at 1322 N. John Young Parkway. It specializes in chicken doused with guasacaca, a citrus based sauce. It would be fun to go there just to say, “I’ll have the guasacaca,” but be sure to pronounce it wasacaca, which is an alternate spelling.
F&D Woodfired Italian Kitchen has opened its third location – the second since the pandemic began – at 1965 Aloma Ave. in Winter Park. The original FDWIK is in the Curry Ford West district, but it is expected to be moved to another space when the lot it currently sits on is developed into a mixed-use structure.
Honest, an International chain restaurant now moving into the U.S., has opened a location at the corner of Sand Lake Road and Orange Blossom Trail. It features an all vegetarian menu of Indian food.
