Note: This event has been moved to the weekend of Feb. 26-28.

I have some people on my gifting list who are really difficult to buy for. So lately, I’ve become more interested in giving experiences as gifts instead of things. With things you have to know the right size, the favorite color, or whether the recipients have one already.

But experiences are unique, and people almost never buy them for themselves.

So that’s why I’m intrigued by the Curated Experiences at Grande Lakes, a new program of weekend-long events offered at the luxury resort. The inaugural Curated Experience is Jan. 29-31, 2021, so the timing is great for giving one this holiday season.

This is how it works.

There are four events that are included with every package. They include the Wheels, Watches, Whiskey & Wine Reception; an Exotic Car Display, featuring Farraris, Lamborghinis, Bentleys and Rolls Royces (no, sorry, no Kias); a Taste of Grande Lakes Wine Pairing Dinner on Saturday night, featuring a mini concert by Joey Fatone; and a Knife & Spoon Chef’s Table Caviar Brunch on Sunday.

Then you get to choose up to four Curated Experiences from a list of 16. They include cooking demonstrations (the one on mastering sous vide cooking with Knife & Spoon chef Gerald Sombright has my attention); cocktail mixing, bourbon and whiskey tastings and a wine blending event with Quintessa Estate; and such experiences as putting tips from the Ritz-Carlton’s golf instructor, a fly casting demonstration on the resort’s pond, or Falconry School where you’ll interact with the magnificent birds of prey. See below for the full list of opportunities or click here.

Cost is $750 per person. Participants do not have to be staying at the resort, but Grande Lakes is offering exclusive rates at the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott for the weekend.

I’ve saved a lot of money by not being able to travel the past nine months. And let’s face it, it’s going to be a while longer before we’ll be getting on a plane for casual getaways. So these Curated Experiences are attractive to not only give as a gift to someone you really like but also to yourself.
