  • Feed the Need is an initiative of 4Roots and the 4 Rivers Restaurant Group. It seems an odd segue to tell you that the 4 Rivers Smokehouse located in Orlando’s City Hall will not review its lease, which expires Saturday. The barbecue outlet has been closed since March when City Hall closed to traffic. Surrounding offices whose workers had been the mainstay of the restaurant also remain closed.
  • Speaking of barbecue, Git-N-Messy, the popular ‘cue joint that was working out of a gas station on Hall Road in Orlando, has merged with Red-Eye Sports Tavern in Winter Springs. Or at least is in the process of merging. The menu is currently limited while Git-N’s founder is working on a Halloween project on International Drive. “He won’t let us touch his brisket,” I was told when I tried to place and order. Maybe by the end of November, the person on the phone said.
  • Operation BBQ Relief, a national nonprofit that also serves meals to displaced people and first responders, sponsored First Responders Day Wednesday. And, with the help of Orlando-based Buca di Beppo, served one thousand meals to local hospitals, police and fire departments and 911 dispatch units. No, Buca di Beppo isn’t a barbecue restaurant; what’s your point? Learn more about Operation BBQ Relief here.
  • St. Cloud will sponsor its Culinary Bicycle Tour on Sat., Nov. 14, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $15 per person and the ride will visit 10 downtown restaurants. Get there an hour early to register and you could get a free helmet. Details here. No details on what restaurants will participate. Maybe one is a barbecue joint, which would tie this column up nicely.
