  • The grand folks at Grande Lakes are aiming for an Aug. 1 debut of Knife & Spoon, the steakhouse to be fronted by Dallas chef John Tesar. I’ve been assured that when the restaurant opens, it will offer a full array of flatware. Since K & S is still under construction, the owners have the advantage to open with the appropriate amount of spacing between tables rather than having to reconfigure it. The Ritz-Carlton itself is planning to reopen to guests on July 1, so that means other restaurants, including Highball & Harvest, will be back in operation.
  • Knife & Spoon, of course, is taking over the space that had been occupied for so many years by Norman’s, the upscale restaurant from celebrity chef Norman Van Aken. The website for Norman’s is promising a summer 2020 opening on Sand Lake Boulevard, which sounds so much grander than Sand Lake Road. It’s going in to the former Bravo Italian restaurant space at the Dellagio.

  • Speaking of Spoons (see above) and Grande Lakes, for that matter, chef Kathleen Blake, who sold her popular downtown restaurant Rusty Spoon last year, has moved to Maine and is cooking at Primo, the original Melissa Kelly restaurant in Rockland. That’s a full circle-ly kind of thing for Blake: Central Floridians first got a taste of Blake’s culinary talents in 2003 when she was chef de cuisine at Primo at the JW Marriott, which is part of the Grande Lakes Resort complex.
  • An initiative called Tango Cares will provide family meals to furloughed hospitality workers on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The meals will be distributed out of Mia’s Italian Kitchen, whose owners also operated Cafe Tu Tu Tango. Approximately 100 workers have signed up for the meals, which feed four people, and there are about 50 slots left. If you’re a hospitality worker finding it hard to feed your family, visit this website to fill out the form and designate a day and time to pickup the meals.
  • Bungalower reports that Belanger Bagels has taken over the recently vacated Sugarbuzz Dezert Co. space in College Park. Belanger specializes in a type of bagel popular in Montreal that is a bit sweeter than the more prevalent New York style. It gets its sweet note from boiling in honey water.
