A month after closing their two International Drive restaurants, Katerina and Vassilis Coumbaros have decided to reopen Taverna Opa and Tapa Toro, but with some consolidation.
Both restaurants will operate out of the Tapa Toro space at Icon Park, which is more amenable for curbside pickup. Delivery is also available through DoorDash or Uber Eats.
Customers may order from Taverna Opa’s Greek menu or Tapa Toro’s Spanish fare – or go full Mediterranean and get some of each.
The Coumbaroses made the decision to close their doors after restaurants were ordered to stop allowing customers to dine in. They decided the best thing for their 100 employees would be for them to apply for unemployment.
“The unsettling fact,” Katerina said in a statement, “is none of them have received it, and it has been a month.”
She continued: “Delays with funding make it almost impossible for us to not reopen. So we are reopening with limited hours, a leaner staff, and a new way of serving the community, which includes running both restaurants from one kitchen.”
Takeout will be available daily from 4 to 8 p.m. Orders can be placed at 407-226-2929 and may be prepaid, including gratuity, for full contactless pickup at 8441 International Drive. For delivery, consult the DoorDash or Uber Eats app. Besides the full menus, each restaurant has a selection of family meals. See the Taverna Opa menu here and Tapa Toro menu here.
