- In an effort to allay concerns, Kona Poké is promising a one hundred percent no-contact food prep guarantee for its takeout orders. KP assures its customers that fresh gloves are used for each order and that employees routinely sanitize their hands. And it is checking its employees’ temperature before they begin their shift. But all restaurants offering takeout these days are doing that, aren’t they? Please tell me they are. Anyway, the press release announcing the guarantee reminded me of a television commercial when I was a kid. I don’t remember what the ad was selling but I remember its tagline: Untouched by human hands.
- Here’s something else that reminds me of my childhood: Milk Money. It’s an initiative of businesses in the Milk District that allowed people to buy $10 certificates $7.50 and spend the Milk Money at any of the participating businesses, including MX Taco, Bad As’s Sandwich and other restaurants. All of the allotted – and subsidized – certificates sold out quickly. So the district is looking for a contributor to support another round. If you’re interested in donating or if you want to join a waiting list, visit the district’s website. And the connection to my youth? My kindergarten teacher, Miss Brissman, would send us home singing a song to remind us to ask our parents for milk break funds: “Milk money tomorrow, just 10 cents.” Yes, that was a very long time ago.

And a lot of people are out of work. 4Roots, the nonprofit organization founded by John Rivers of 4 Rivers Smokehouse, has established Feed the Need Florida, to provide meals to food-insecure students and their families across Orange County and the state of Florida. You can help with donations.
- Faith Neighborhood Center in Groveland is also trying to feed families and needs help buying food and personal hygiene items. Help them here. Volunteers are needed, too.
- Puff ’n Stuff, the catering and event planner, is offering family meals for four to go. For every $75 package sold, P’nS is donating a package to the family of one of its furloughed team members. Details.
