  • It’s cold. Are you trying to warm someone’s heart? Our friends at Edible Orlando are hosting an event called Dinner for Two – Cooking for Valentine’s Day on Feb. 12 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Center for Health and Wellbeing in Winter Park. Kendra Lott, Pam Brandon and Katie Farmand will demonstrate how to prepare three easy courses for you to make if you’d like to reach someone’s heart by way of the stomach (I think it’s supposed to sound more romantic than that). Cost is $30 and includes full tastings. (Maybe convince your love that Valentine’s Day falls on the 12th this year and call it dinner. Tickets here.
  • Tough Sell No. 1: Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream has opened its third location in Oviedo next to the Town House Restaurant.
  • Tough Sell No. 2: Icebar, the International Drive attraction that features having people standing around a room where everything is frozen, has introduced a food menu to go with its cocktails (most served on ice, of course). Not sure what’s on the menu – chilled shrimp cocktail? Baked Alaska? Lemon Icebox Pie?

  • Speaking of pie…Thursday, Jan. 23, is National Pie Day. Use that information as you see fit.
  • This would have been Tough Sell No. 3, but the Taste of Baldwin Park that had been scheduled for tonight (1/22) has been rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 20. Good call.
  • Git-n-Messy BBQ #2 is anticipating opening any day now inside a Citgo gas station on Hall Road in Orlando. I’m not familiar with Git-n-Messy – well, not the restaurant – but I’m leery of any eatery with #2 in its name.
  • Speaking of barbecue…4 Rivers Smokehouse has closed its Atlanta location, its first outside Florida.
  • Cafe d’Avignon, a New York City bakery, has opened its first location outside the city at Margaritaville’s Sunset Walk in Kissimmeee. This is the first of five Orlando area bakeries the company plans to open. The photo below is one I took of the Pain d’Avignon in Essex Market on New York’s Lower East Side. Hot bread right out of the oven? Easy sell.
