If It’s Labor Day, It’s Time for the Great Irish Hooley at Raglan Road

Strings and Things Hooley 2019

Labor Day Weekend is coming up, which means that it’s time to get your hooley on.

Raglan Road is hosting its eighth annual Great Irish Hooley music festival beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, and continuing until the wee hours of Tuesday, Sept. 3. (Wee hour, actually: the hooley will end at 1 a.m.)

What is a hooley? you ask. It’s a Gaelic word for a party, particularly one with music and entertainment. That might sound like a typical day at Raglan Road – after all, it was named to OpenTable’s list of Top 100 Restaurants for a Big Night Out – but when the Great Irish Hooley rolls around, things really get hopping (literally, if you’ve ever seen the Raglan Road Irish Dancers).

The hooley puts an emphasis on music, but of course there will be special Hooley-crafted cocktails and RR’s exceptional contemporary Irish cuisine. And by the way, the popular Rollicking Raglan Brunch will be served all weekend, including Monday.

Guinness ale is always a popular draw here, but the pub has also partnered with local craft beer maker Crooked Can Brewing, which will unveil its new Devil’s Foot Blackberry Golden Ale during the event.

And for the kids there will be Celtic face painting, and they don’t even have to have a Celtic face.

Oh, and did I mention that all of this comes without a cover charge?

Besides the usual roster of terrific musicians and dancers, Raglan Road brings in some special acts to keep things lively. Included this year are Billow Wood, Strings & Things (pictured at top), and High Time. You can check out the full entertainment schedule at the Great Irish Hooley web page. Note that live entertainment begins at noon each day during the weekend, so if you’re going for brunch, keep that in mind.

Besides being named to OpenTable’s Big Night Out list, Raglan Road is in TripAdvisor’s Hall of Fame and was named Best Irish Pub in Florida last year by The Daily Meal. The restaurant and pub are owned by Irish partners John Cooke and Paul Nolan. It features an interior of aged walnut and mahogany culled from old Irish bars and churches built in Ireland and shipped to Orlando.

Raglan Road is at Disney Springs, 1640 Buena Vista Drive, Orlando. The phone number is 407-938-0300.
