  • Lighthouse Central Floria and Lighthouse Works will be partnering with local restaurants and beverage outlets to host the Lighthouse Sensory Series of blindfold tastings. The first is Wed., Aug. 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Digress Wine in College Park with a multi-flight wine tasting. Then on Aug. 21, Soco Thornton Park will offer a blindfold tasting of bourbons. The series is designed to offer a look, if you will, into Lighthouse’s mission to aid children and adults who are blind or visually impaired. A portion of the proceeds from the tastings will benefit Lighthouse. Click here for more details on the Sensory Series and to purchase tickets.
  • Chicken Guy!, the Disney Springs quick-serve collaboration between Guy Fieri and Robert Earl, was recognized at The Shop! Association Annual Store Design Awards at the GlobalShop Conference in Chicago. Acutally, it was the restaurant’s designer, Architecture Plus International, Inc., that won the Gold Fast Casual Restaurant + Graphics award for “the use of space and materials, and quality of concept execution.” Or maybe that should be execution!

  • Norman’s will serve its last meal at the Ritz-Carlton Aug. 31. You’ll recall that the hotel did not renew its lease agreement with the Norman Van Aken restaurant, opting to put one of its own concepts into the space instead. Norman’s partners are currently considering spaces to relocate the upscale concept. As Van Aken said in an email earlier this week, “We are very much looking forward to continuing our work in Orlando!”
  • Orange County Brewers is moving to Seminole County. Lake Mary, to be exact. Perhaps it will take a cue from State Road 436 and rename the business Semoran Brewers. The downtown space that it’s evacuating — Sunday, Aug. 4 is its last day — has proved problematic over the past two years, but mainly for the food businesses that shared the address. Word is that the Orlando Meats folks will expand their operation there.

  • In other brewing news, the Ravenous Pig Brewing Co. is expected to start serving the first beers from its new facility, across the parking lot from the restaurant. The space between the two facilities is being developed into a beer garden, which is scheduled to open first quarter of 2020.
  • Just down Orange Avenue from there, Black Bean Deli will open in the former Winnie’s space sometime in the next couple of weeks. When it does, the original location on U.S. Highway 17-92 will close.
