Bullet Point Buffet: Food Halls, Markets and the Milky Way

Written By Scott Joseph On May 31, 2019

Milky Way

  • Orlando’s Milk District is inviting you to travel the Milky Way in a sort of do-it-yourself pub stroll on Friday, June 14, from 6 to 10 p.m. Participants will start at the Orlando Elks Lodge, not usually known as a bar stop, to pick up a glass, a wristband and a map. Then off you go for samples at a dozen or so food and beverage businesses. Tickets are $10. More info here.
  • Food halls are all the rage, apparently. There’s one planned for the former Great Southern Box Company building in College Park, and another destined for the Fort Gatlin shopping center south of downtown. It’s farther south than SoDo, so…SoSoDo?

  • A new restaurant has opened in downtown Orlando called Jam-Eng. You’re meant to pronounce it Jamming, but it’s apparently a combination of Jamaican and English food.
  • Caro-Bama BBQ has closed its shop in the North Quarter. It’s going back to focusing on its food truck business.
  • In celebration of its 26th anniversary, Christner’s Prime Steak & Lobsters will donate 100 percent of its proceeds on June 14 to the Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families. Nice thing to do.
  • The Mark Baratelli fronted Downtown Indoor Farmers Market is shaping up nicely for its June 9 premiere. Twenty of so vendors have signed on and Baratelli promises none will be pulling produce from Del Monte boxes. Find details on the event’s Facebook page.
