Tako Cheena has finally opened in the former Forbidden City space in Mills 50. The popular Mexican/Asian fusion concept first announced that it would take over the Forbidden City building in July. Of 2015. Even considering the condition that the former gas station cum restaurant was in — I try not to think about it — that’s a long time for renovations. Currently, the original Tako Cheena is closed and undergoing renovations, most likely for a new concept. But I’m not going to expect anything real soon.
Tre Bambine, the Italian restaurant that took over the former Spice Modern space overlooking Lake Eola has closed after just over two months. In a story about the closing by Jessica Bryce Young at Orlando Weekly, the owner was quoted as saying she just couldn’t make it work. Kids, if you’re considering opening a restaurant, consider this rule of thumb from veteran restaurateurs: you should expect to lose money for at least two years. It’s a tough, tough business.

The Jimmy Hula’s on University Boulevard has closed. It was the beach shack-themed restaurant’s second location — the original is on Aloma Avenue in Winter Park — and opened in June 2012.
A new restaurant has opened in the former Your Pie space in downtown’s SkyHouse apartment building. It’s called Bite – Be Inspired to Eat. I wonder if they considered calling it Be Inspired to Eat More Eggs.
