Ready, Set, Taste!

Premier Event to Banish Childhood Hunger is Saturday

Taste! Central Florida, the annual food and beverage extravaganza dedicated to ending childhood hunger, is just about here. The event, formerly known as Taste of the Nation, is Saturday, Sept. 8, from 6:45 to 10 p.m. at the Orlando World Center Marriott. Tickets are $175 per person and can be purchased online at this link. All proceeds from ticket sales stay in the area and are used by Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida.

Taste! is a massive walkabout affair that fills one of the huge ballrooms at the Marriott World Center. The highlight is the array of talented chefs from some of the area’s top restaurants offering samples of their best dishes.

Among this year’s list of participating restaurants are flog friends:

  • The Whiskey
  • Taverna Opa
  • The Kitchen at Whisper Creek Farm
  • Tapa Toro
  • Highball & Harvest
  • Big Fin Seafood Kitchen
  • B Resort & Spa

Others that will be sure to attract attention will be the Disney’s Animal Kingdom restaurant Tiffins; the recently reviewed Terralina Crafted Italian; and a first taste from The Old Jailhouse, the new Sanford restaurant with Bram Fowler in the kitchen. You can see the full list of restaurants at this link.

Of course you’ll need something to go with all of that fine food, so there’s also a bevy of beverage representatives standing ready to pour. In the past, the beverage portion was mostly wine. But now there is a good showing from craft beer makers (Crooked Can, Orlando Brewing, Playalinda Brewing, Orange Blossom Brewing) and distillers (Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Maker’s Mark, Wild Turkey, Dragon’s Milk).

This is probably a good time to point out that attendees can get a special room rate at the Marriott and just take the elevator home for the night. Details at the Taste! website.

Scott Joseph’s Orlando Restaurant Guide is proud to once again be a media sponsor. It’s really a fun event, and I like that so much of the proceeds go to helping people in our own community.

I’ll be there and I hope that if you see me wandering around you’ll say hello.
