Full Stop: Truck Stop Restaurant Closing

Truck Stop Restaurant, which began as a pop-up concept that invited food truck owners to cook in a kitchen without wheels, is closing. Sunday’s Disco Brunch will be the final service.

The restaurant, which opened in late 2017, took over the building on Washington Street in Thornton Park when previous occupant Graffiti Junktion moved down the block.

Although the awning over the front door still referred to the pop-up concept — wherein different food truck operators would be invited in each week to offer their menus to a new audience, and one with tables, chairs and a full bar — that idea had been dropped some time ago, according to a worker at the restaurant who had just received word of the closing.

Longtime residents will remember this space as Thornton Park Cafe and later as La Fontanella da Nino and Midnight Blue before becoming the prototype for the Graffiti Junktion chain.

Somewhere along the way, an open patio was covered with a permanent awning. The structure was originally purpose-built as a gas station for the neighborhood.
