Tommy Bahama Cafe and Retail Store Closing at Pointe Orlando

Written By Scott Joseph On April 6, 2018

Tommy Bahama

The Tommy Bahama Cafe and retail store at Pointe Orlando will close April 23. It opened in late 2006.

According to someone reached by phone at the International Drive restaurant, the corporation could not come to an agreement with the Pointe’s leasing office to renew the lease.

There are no current plans to relocate the Island-themed eatery — other retail outlets exist in the area, including one at Millenial Mall. If the company does open something else in the area, I’m told, it will most likely be a newer concept known as Marlin Bar, which is a retail store with the Tommy Bahama brand and an in-store bar with light bites. It will not be a full-service restaurant. Shoppers are able to browse the store with a cocktail in hand, always a good boost for sales. A Marlin Bar probably will not happen for at least a couple of years.

My first review of Tommy Bahama Cafe, which published in January of 2007, found that the quality of the food and service wasn’t quite up to the quality of the upscale island wear. Subsequent reviews found that things improved a bit, but it was never on my list of must-dines for people in Tourist World.
