Ocean Sun Sets Opening Date

Written By Scott Joseph On February 29, 2016

Ocean Sun LogoOcean Sun Brewing, the handcrafted brewery that has moved into the former Southern Moon restaurant space on Curry Ford Road, will open to the public on Monday, March 21.

The brewery is owned by Bob DeWeese and brothers Mark and Steve Wilkerson. Head brewer is Noah Cowles, who has previously beer’d at Florida Beer Co. in Cape Canaveral, Old Ox Brewery in Ashburn, Virginia, and Chocolate City Beer in Washington, D.C.

OS will be sharing some of its space with La Fiesta Mexican restaurant, which will be moving from its space in a small office complex across the street. The restaurant’s menu will be available to patrons in the Ocean Sun space. Steve Wilkerson, who is the former director of culinary operations at Red Lobster, said he expected La Fiesta to open in the new place at about the same time but that he hadn’t spoken with the restaurant’s owner lately for an update.

Judging from the size of the tanks that Ocean Sun has installed and the list of brews it expects to serve at the opening, the owners are going into this with all taps open. The only unknown is whether the craft beer hipsters will embrace a microbrewery that isn’t in the Milk, Audubon Park or Mills 50 districts and make the trip to a Winn-Dixie Plaza at Curry Ford Road and Crystal Lake Drive.
