Stefano’s Offspring Open Pizzeria in Winter Park

When I reviewed Stefano’s Trattoria, the wonderful mom and pop Italian restaurant in Winter Springs, I made special mention of the pizza that I had sampled during one of my visits.

“The crust was a perfect thickness, the cheese not too gloppy, and the sauce added just the right tomatoey note,” I wrote in the review published in the Orlando Sentinel in August of 2006.

The mom and pop were Stefano and Marie LaCommare, and their children Leonardo and Antoniella worked also worked at the restaurant, as did Antoniella’s husband, Frank Paradiso, who was the trattoria’s pizzaiolo. I also wrote in the review, “Nice pie, Frank.”

Eight months ago, Stefano and Marie retired (at least for now) and sold the restaurant, name and all, to a young man from Colombia named F. Alejandro Martinez. (I’ll have an updated review of Stefano’s Trattoria soon.) The kids wanted to stay in the restaurant business but didn’t want a place with 180 seats to run on their own.

So instead, Leonardo, who also goes by Lenny, and Frank, who now prefers to be called Francesco, and Antoniella, who now prefers the spelling Antonella, have taken over a pizza shop on Fairbanks Avenue.

Antonella’s Pizzeria opened at the beginning of December in the space previously occupied by Pi-Hole (thank you for not keeping that name). With only 10 seats, the restaurant will focus on takeout and delivery, Antonella told me. “Winter Park doesn’t really have a mom and pop restaurant that does takeout and delivery” with this kind of food, she added.

Leonardo will serve as the restaurant’s chef and will offer pasta dishes and other Italian entrees. Francesco will again be the pizzaiolo, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to say “Nice pie, Francesco” very soon.
