Our friends at Southeast Steel are celebrating their 75th year next weekend with an anniversary event titled “The Art of Cooking, the Love of Food,” with cooking demonstrations, tastings and some pretty nice door prizes, too.
The event is Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30 and 31, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Southeast Steel, of course, is at 63 W. Amelia St. in downtown Orlando, right where it’s been since 1940.
Demonstrations include cooking with a convection steam oven from Wolf and outdoor pizza oven techniques from Alfresco Open Air Culinary Systems. I’ve seen the steam oven in operation and it’s pretty impressive. We’re not talking about one of those tabletop vegetable steamers cum rice cooker. This is something that looks sort of like a microwave oven but does all its cooking with steam. And not just veggies; all sorts of foods, quickly and more healthfully. You have to see it.
Local chef Bryce Balluff will explain sous vide cooking, which is not just for fancy professional kitchens anymore. Did I mention that a Sous Vide Supreme cooker is one of the door prizes? (I Want.) They’re also giving away a KitchenAid stand mixer (have/love) and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 preloaded with Panna, an award winning cooking app.
And, of course, the Southeast Steel experts will be on hand in the showroom to help you with whatever you need to get your kitchen readied for the holidays.
