Restaurants Open on Thanksgiving Day 2013

Written By Scott Joseph On November 5, 2013

Turkey

Here we go again; time for another Thanksgiving feast.

I’ve always thought of Thanksgiving Day service at restaurants that choose to be open that day to fall into one of two categories, but really there’s a third. The two prominent ones are the all-you-can-eat buffet where you serve yourself from the trough, I mean the steam tables, or the a la carte menu that allows you to pick and choose from a special menu or, in some cases, the restaurant’s regular bill of fare.

The third type is the prix fixe menu, which generally offers multiple courses for a set fee.

Personally, I think in general it’s time to move away from the all you can eat model. Americans really need to stop eating like this — it’s more food than you need or that you should eat. But we’re talking about Thanksgiving — most people expect to eat like this, so I’m not going to try to dissuade you this time.

Below is a list of restaurants that have indicated they will be open on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, which falls on a Thursday this year. This list comes with the usual annual caveats:

  • These are not to be considered recommendations from me. Because of extreme circumstances that holiday dining presents, even the best restaurants will be under stressed operations.
  • Make your reservations now and be prepared to be flexible with your preferred dining time.
  • Be on time for your reservation but don’t be surprised if you are made to wait beyond the appointed time. People dining on holidays tend to take longer and may linger over coffee and pumpkin pie. Just take a seat in the bar and relax.
  • If your plans change and you’re unable to keep your reservation, call the restaurant and let them know. They’ll appreciate it, and so will the party waiting in the bar for a table.
  • Be nice to the servers — they’re working on a day that most people have off to spend with their familes.
  • Think about the people waiting for your table and consider having your coffee and pie in the lounge.

Here is the list of restaurants serving on Thanksgiving, with links to their websites for more information (list will be updated as I get more responses from restaruateurs):
