Terrace 390 to Open in Downtown Orlando Monday

Written By Scott Joseph On April 15, 2011

terrace_390_logoTerrace 390 is slated to open its doors in downtown Orlando on Monday, April 18. The restaurant, a project of alumni of the University of Central Florida (take a look at the logo, very UCF-y), takes over the space formerly occupied by Harvey’s Bistro on the ground floor of the Bank of America building on Orange Avenue. (That would be 390 N. Orange Ave.)

The Terrace in the name is indication that the building’s management finally allowed the urban patio space on the corner of the high rise to be used for outdoor dining. (According to Manny Garcia, who owned Harvey’s Bistro, the building’s owners repeatedly rejected requests to let Harvey’s develop the patio.)

Besides the outdoor seating, Terrace 390 will have a totally new interior. The space was virtually gutted. Peeks through the windows show that the restaurant has a casual, almost sports bar kind of feel. Harvey’s, which closed more two years ago, was also casual, but the atmosphere reflected the staid ambience of the bank building.

Terrace 390 is a partnership among Travis Barr, Kyle Israel, and Carey Sobel, with assistance from Angel Cortes, who owns downtown’s Vain nightclub. Charles Walker is the executive chef. Click here to download the Terrace 390 menu.

And here’s a fun little twist: each server will carry an Apple iPad, which will transmit orders wirelessly to the bar and the kitchen via a customized software package.  Guests will be able to preview a photo of each dish on the iPad, and servers will be able to complete credit card transactions directly at the table through the device. Remember when Seasons 52 was on the cutting edge with its handheld ordering devices (which sent phantom orders to the kitchen each time the servers shoved them into their pockets)?

Terrace 390 will open Monday at 11 a.m. It will be open Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner until 11 each evening.

By the way, those of you who have been holding out hope that another restaurant would take over the former Manuel’s on the 28th spot on the top floor of the B of A building can stop wishing: that space is now an office.
