Yelp Orlando, the local outpost of the Internet business review site, has come up with a fun promotion: Yelp Drinks, a seven-day happy hour (happy week?) with half-off drink specials at some favorite drinking establishments. It’s sort of like a restaurant week, except without food. I think I would have called it Yelp Gulp, but that’s just me.

Yelp Drinks, which begins today, April 4, and runs through Sunday, is being spearheaded locally by Colleen Burns, Yelp’s dynamo community manager for Orlando. Yelp Drinks events are being held simultaneously in 30 cities across the country, so if you’re traveling this week, check Yelp’s website. Burns has organized a launch party this evening at Wally’s Mills Avenue Liquors, the delightfully divey bar that is a local institution and renowned for its generous pours. “What better way to kick it off than at the location that pours a heavy drink?” Burns said in her Yelp post announcing the event. (I recently heard a story about a new visitor who came into Wally’s and ordered a double. The woman behind the bar looked at the man and asked, “Why?”) The event at Wally’s is in the tiny bar’s side parking lot from 6 to 8 p.m. and will feature a couple of local food trucks, vodka tastings, and a few other goodies. Wally’s is at 1001 N. Mills Ave., Orlando.

For the rest of the week, the 13 participating bars and restaurant lounges will offer at least three drink specials, all day, every day. There are no coupons or certificates — just ask for the Yelp Drinks specials and the bartender will comply.
